Assisting or managing research projects
Interested in a research project on the Quran manuscripts?
Who is it for?
You are a private collector, a public or a private institution, and you are interested in a research project on the Qur’anic manuscripts…
You need someone to explore certain perspectives for which you have no experience; or to assist your team in organising the tasks.
Methodology
My experience of research projects can be useful in exploring research perspectives and organising tasks. My knowledge of collections can help you to better define the corpus. My contacts with the institutions keeping manuscripts make it easier to obtain access to the documents.
Deliverables
AN EXAMPLE
I have been involved in two major projects in Europe concerning ancient manuscripts of the Qur’an. These two projects were jointly funded by France (ANR) and Germany (DFG). The first – CORANICA (2011 and 2014) – aimed to gain a better understanding of the production of manuscripts in Hijazi script dating from the first century of the Hegira.
The deliverables included a series of facsimile publications and the use of new tools such as carbon-14 dating of the manuscripts. The second project – PALEOCORAN (2014-2017) – was an extension of the previous project, with the aim of creating an online library bringing together the scattered leaves of the copies originally preserved in a single library: that of the mosque of ‘Amr b. al-‘As in Fustat.
